Can I Really Make Money With Secret Shopping ?

One of the biggest misconceptions about being a secret shopper is that you can not make any real money at it.  There are several things that people think about when it comes to this type of business.

  • They may think that it is fake, somehow not a real business to build.

  • They may think that the costs of being a shopper are too high.  Of course, they do not realize that most of the information that they need is available free either.

  • Finally, they do not realize that this activity performs a very important role and is not just a fun thing to do.  It is crucial to the development of a business and therefore needs to be taken seriously.

If you do what you need to do, do it correctly, and do it often, you will make money.  The costs are minimal and the benefits can be really amazing.

How You Make Money

The question is then, “How do I make money by Secret Shopping?”  To help you to understand, you will need to fully read all of the information contained in this site, but let’s sum it up here first for you.

To make money, you will need to invest in time, in costs for getting you from place to place and for the necessary funds to make any purchases that are required.  Remember that good organisations will not require you to pay for working with them. After all, they need skilled shoppers to move around and make their money for them.  In other words, there is no need for you to pay to work with a  company.

Second, realize that you may have to put out money before you can bring it in.  Sometimes it can take 60 to 90 days to get funds in from a job that you have done.  Now, that may mean that you have to be able to go without those funds for some time initially, but once you get started and money continues to roll in, it gets much easier.

For this aspect of the business, consider if you were opening your own little shop on the street corner.  You would need to put out money in stocking the location, in hiring the employees and even in renting that cute little store front.

The same is true here.  You will need to put out a bit of money to bring it in.  There is no scam here, just a fact of starting up a business and running it.  To keep that store stocked, you will need to make purchases before you can bring in the sales from your customers, right?

When you are assigned a secret shopping job, it will be up to you to read through the necessary paperwork and to gather all necessary information before starting.  Once you get to the location, none of your paperwork can come into the location with you.  In addition, you will need to perform any necessary sales dialogue with the store employee to see if they do their job correctly.

Once you have thoroughly completed the shop, you will then come back to your office or home and enter it into the database provided for you.  What’s important to remember here is that details are what counts.  We will get into that more later, but for now realize that you should put in some time providing a detailed report to the company you have carried out the shop for.

In doing this, you will likely need to show some proof that you were at the location, with a receipt, usually.  Once you have provided this, usually through a scan of the receipt uploaded to the site or through a fax of it to the company, you can then submit your report to be paid.  Again, it can take several weeks to receive payment from your shopping assignment and this can be nerve wracking, but once funds start to come in regularly, you won’t notice it.

As for how you will be paid?, each company does something a bit different.  You will find those that cut a check to you each month and mail it out.  Some will provide for automatic payments into your checking account or savings account.  Still others will pay through Paypal.  Many of the companies you shop for will only use one method of payment.  Therefore, if you can not use that method, they may not allow you to work with them.
